In the Bleak midwinter......

So it has turned cold down here on the south coast but the days have still been sunny and clear which is my favourite winter weather. I love walking over the ground crisp with frost and watching the weak winter sun glinting through the bare tree branches. The little ones have enjoyed breaking the ice that has formed over puddles!!

At the end of November I saw a beautiful crochet poncho being blogged about (Lazy Daisy Jones crochet poncho) , I don't often do this but I knew I just HAD to make it so I rushed out to buy issue 25 of Simply crochet magazine and a suitable amount of yarn (I chose an inexpensive acrylic one as this would be my biggest crochet project to date, and I wasn't sure I could do it!!). I have thoroughly enjoyed spending my evenings snuggled up on the sofa with my creation in progress.

I have made my poncho longer than the instructions suggest as I wanted the front to finish below my waist, and I chose not to add the fringe at the last minute as I felt it would just get in the way! I used a simple picot edging, Lucy at Attic 24 created a wonderful wave edging for hers (Attic24 cowl neck poncho). I think if I were doing it again I would stick to the magazine's suggestion and use single rows of colour rather than two together, but other than that I am very pleased with it. We try to conserve as much energy as possible at home and add a jumper rather than turning the heat on straight away so the poncho has come in very handy already!! I would love to make a mini sized one for my daughter but I think my next crochet projects will most likely involve making baby blankets as I have a couple of friends who are expecting.

Please excuse my bizarrely posed photos - I am new at this and have a lot to learn!!

             Thanks for reading!

In the beginning....

Hello and welcome! Thank you so much for dropping by!

I have started this blog as a creative outlet for my already hectic life - Also I think my friends and family are getting bored of me telling/texting/facebooking all the things that I have made!

Mostly I sew (clothes for both me and my family), also I crochet, enjoy walking and love all things nature related.

Butterflies are for memories both past - of my wonderful grandparents who still inspire me, of friends who have passed on too young and remind me to cherish every moment, of my little family growing up. And also for all of the memories still to come - hopefully some of them will be captured on this blog.

'Troubles melt like lemon drops' from 'somewhere over the rainbow' (I love the Israel Kamakawiwo'ole version). Sewing, creating and spending time outdoors helps my troubles to melt away so this just had to be in the title of my blog!

I hope that you enjoy spending time in my little corner of the world.............
